About STRIVE WorldWIDE
STRIVE WorldWIDE is a first-of-its kind online program to teach independent living skills to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. WIDE represents Welcoming Independence Diversifying Education. Online learning has become common in education, and for good reason: it offers learners the flexibility to learn at their own pace, allows the learner to schedule class time around their busy schedules, provides access to those in rural areas or with limited access to transportation, uses technology to make the content more accessible (such as closed captioning, audio, visual, recorded seminars, and more), and provides the “quiet learner” the opportunity to be heard.
About Our Coursework
Courses run for five weeks, with each week focusing on its own topic or unit. The courses have a seminar (live & online) as well as a self-paced, interactive online classroom.
Seminars are live, online courses that meet twice a week with classmates and instructors. Students can see and hear their instructor and his or her presentation or screen. Students participate through chat, answering questions, playing games, and taking polls. Students may attend the seminar independently or with support. The seminar can be joined on a computer, smartphone, or tablet. All seminars are recorded, so if someone is unable to attend a seminar, it can be watched at their convenience.
The self-paced class is a series of highly audio and visual interactive sessions, ranging from videos, to games, to surveys, to interactive scenarios where different options are presented and selected by the participant leading to multiple outcomes, and much much more! Students complete this coursework each week at his or her own pace. The classes can be accessed 24/7, so students pick the schedule that works best for them.
